Gold errors are elusive.
This 1855 Gold Dollar is graded AU53 by NGC (Cert. No. 4912060-004), and was struck on a clipped planchet. It retains good luster and original color over appealing surfaces.
Given that this Type 2 Gold Dollar is such a short-lived coin type, the best home for a coin like this would be in a set of type coins composed of errors - a pretty interesting endeavor, no doubt.
