Error $2.50 1908 Gold Indian Quarter Eagle Struck on Defective Planchet - Choice BU
This is a really cool coin.
Choice for the date, what makes this coin all the more special is that it was struck on a defective planchet. Both sides of the coin exhibit significant delaminations before strike.
It was in the best interest of the US Mint not to release lightweight coins into commerce, especially when they were gold. This coin weighs approximately 4.1 grams, and is slightly under tolerance.
