The 1869-S Quarter is difficult to locate, and especially so in high grades. This coin possesses the luster of an XF / AU grade, but some localized cleaning has left light hairlines across some of the reverse of the coin. These hairlines appear more obvious in the photos than they are in person, and do not immediately throw flags to avoid the coin. Rather they are subtle enough to not draw the eye of the collector fully appreciative of the rarity of this date.
While cleaned as described above, the coin is not lifeless, and the strike is as good as it gets for this date with splitting of all of the stars. Moreover, there are no bothersome deep contact marks.
Overall, a pleasing enough example of a date which is challenging to find in any condition.
At the VF price point this coin delivers nearly condition census detail and plenty of value.
