The 1869-S Quarter is difficult to locate, and especially so in high grades. This coin possesses the luster of an XF / AU grade, but some localized cleaning has left light hairlines across some of the reverse of the coin. These hairlines do not immediately throw flags to avoid the coin. Rather they are subtle enough to not draw the eye of the appreciative collector.
While cleaned as described above, the coin is not lifeless, the strike is as good as it gets for this date, with splitting of all of the stars, and there are no bothersome deep marks.
Overall, a pleasing enough example of a date which is challenging to find in any condition.
